“In Morocco, it’s possible to see the Atlantic and the Mediterranean at the same time, to cross deserts, climb mountains, and wander ancient cities all in one journey.”
Paul Bowles, American writer and composer
How you discover Morocco matters
A Sahara Desert trek in Morocco is often a dream experience for adventurers. Picturesque sand dunes, camel rides, and sleeping under moonlit skies make this desert experience one people will never forget.
But what if there was more to explore in Morocco? From the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea to trekking the snow-capped summits of the Atlas Mountains, our Morocco tours serve everything you can ask for.
The question is, how do you want to discover Morocco and all its glory?
On one hand, we have our established Morocco, Sahara Desert & Atlas Mountains Trek. A hiker’s dream come true – exploring everything this amazingly diverse country has to offer, which includes trekking the Atlas Mountains for 7 days.
On the other hand, hiking may not be your calling. In this case, you can bypass the Atlas Mountain trek and travel in comfort to the stunning Southwest Coast for 7 days, before reconnecting with the trekkers to continue to the Sahara.
Our Moroccan tours are designed to let you experience everything this vast country offers, the way you wish to experience it. Both allow you time to soak in the beauty and wonder and connect with its rich history.
To help you choose your own Moroccan adventure, we’ve outlined some of the highlights from each section.
Here’s looking at you, Kid
Casablanca, the largest city in Morocco, is often romanticised in movies, but to really fall in love with it, you must go there. And that’s where all our tours begin. Allowing you to explore this unique metropolis, where European-style boulevards mix with traditional souks.
On day one of the tours, we head to Marrakech, where you can walk through exquisite gardens such as Yves Saint Laurent’s Jardin Majorelle or marvel at the medersas.
Our local guides provide the insider knowledge, hidden gems, and unique perspectives that bring each destination to life.
Option 1: Highlights of the Atlas Mountains
This is one for the bucket list, especially for hikers.
The Atlas Mountains is one of Africa’s, if not the world’s, most scenic trails. Our trek to Mount Toubkal’s summit provides unrestricted views of Africa’s highest mountain, a vantage point from which to explore rugged peaks and deep valleys.
Along the way, witness the traditional Berber terraced farms carved into the mountainsides and also sample plenty of mint tea. In fact, you may develop a taste for it.
Our talented chef will also treat us to a delicious lunch, providing a taste of the authentic flavours of the high Atlas Mountains.
Option 2: Where the mountains meet the ocean
If mountain trekking for a week doesn’t float your boat, you (or your partner) can choose a different path and enjoy the beauty of Morocco’s beaches.
From the timeless bustle of Morocco’s UNESCO-listed medinas to the wild beauty of its Atlantic coastline, this country never stops surprising. And tucked away on that southern coast is Legzira Beach — a peaceful, lesser-known escape where nature takes centre stage.
Here, iconic red sandstone arches, carved by the ocean over centuries, rise from the sand like sculptures. Though one of the great arches collapsed in 2016, others still stand, glowing a fiery orange. It’s a place that feels quietly magical — a haven for photographers, wanderers, and anyone craving something off the beaten path.
Experiences in the Sahara Desert
After the fantastic heights of the Atlas Mountains, or the days spent by the coast, we then head east into the warm, golden light of the Sahara.
Of course, you want to explore, and what better way then by camel back. You can take a gentle journey across the dunes of Erg Chebbi, one of the most iconic desert landscapes in North Africa.
Traditional Berber music fills the evenings here, and blankets of stars create the perfect way to end a perfect day.
Reasons to Choose Getaway Trekking
We currently provide two very different ways to discover Morocco. Both of these options allow you to witness the serenity of a camel trek, the local culture, and hidden gems. What’s unique about this is that couples with different interests can still share their travels but also decide to take two different paths.
One may love to hike and the other not so much. The ability to “build your own” Moroccan experience means you both get a great immersive experience, but in two different modes.
Whichever path you choose, our local, English-speaking guides know Morocco like the back of their hands. Navigating you through mountain terrain, the heart of the Sahara and to bustling towns and breathtaking coastlines.
Our well-planned itineraries give you the time to witness everything Morocco has to offer while ensuring you are exposed to plenty of culture, history, and landscapes along the way.
