Mt Rinjani Yoga Trek

Rugged and adventurous, the Indonesian island of Lombok is growing in popularity for intrepid travellers. Gunung Rinjani, the country's second highest volcano, rises in the north, presenting a unique experience with breathtaking scenery. Concluding with yoga and a luxury spa treatment, this Mt Rinjani Yoga Trek is a truly unforgettable experience that can be enjoyed again... and again... again!

We are devastated at the destruction of the beautiful island of Lombok with the recent earthquakes. Our advice from our operator is that more than half the island has been severely impacted.

Our Indonesia trek schedule is therefore paused until further notice. We do hope we are able to trek there again in the future; this is a wonderful experience, and these are beautiful people who need tourism to get them back on their feet.

Stay tuned…

Traversing the Lombok Island track up Mt Rinjani is one of the greatest kept secrets in all of Indonesia. Compared to more famous tracks, the Mt Rinjani Yoga Trek offers a vast array of scenery from waterfalls to rain forest, wildlife, hot springs, caves, pristine lakes and more.

Furthermore, add-in the historic Indonesian culture and the fact you’re trekking up a volcano, this trek is truly a trip you will not forget in a hurry. Although the dominant geographical phenomenon, its peak is rarely seen from the lowlands, as is often shrouded in clouds.

Following your journey taking in the extraordinary beauty and eerie isolation that is Mount Rinjani; the second highest mountain in Indonesia outside Irian Jaya, you will be forever grateful that Getaway Trekking opted to include a short stay at a 5 star resort in Senggigi for recuperative Yoga sessions and luxury Spa treatment.

Make no mistake – this trek may be relatively short but it is extremely demanding, both mentally and physically. If you’ve been looking for an experience that challenges you but also rewards your personal efforts immediately by way of pampering… look NO further than the Mt Rinjani Yoga Trek experience.

Overnight at Tented Campsite

Day 03 Summit to Mt Rinjani (3726 metres). 8-10 hours.
After an early morning wake up call at 2am, you will hike, escorted all the way, to the peak of Mt.Rinjani (3,726m) and watch the sun rise over a spectacular vista of lake, mountain and island stretching far below. This is a particularly challenging part of your trek, as you will be making this ascent on volcanic rubble which provides little traction (3-4 hours).

After a brief rest, we return to Base Camp III for a late breakfast (2.5–3 hours).

We continue our descent to Lake Segara Anak and hot spring bathing at the formation of the new volcano, which has become a symbol of Lombok. The terrain changes again here and instead of the volcanic rubble you will now find yourself clambering over rocks as you make your way vertically down the inside of the crater. You will find your self climbing down a lot of large rocks and boulders! This can be quite hard on the knees and ankles so plenty of care must be taken when making your way down!

On arrival at the shores of the lake you will be able to relax in the hot springs, extreme caution again needs to be taken as the waters may be VERY hot.

Overnight at Tented Campsite
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included

Day 04 Trek to Senari Village and transfer to Sengiggi. 8-10 hours.
After breakfast we begin our climb to the crater rim, where we take the time to marvel at the spectacular landscape. Again we are climbing up the sides of the crater which at times will mean clambering over the large rocks and boulders. Caution needs to be taken with knees and ankles (2-3 hrs).

From here, we begin our descent to Senaru Village, taking approximately 6-7 hours. Along the journey you will find many kinds of flowers and animals to peruse, including black monkeys. After passing checkpoint 1, you will make your way to the arches that mark the finish of the track, however this is where permits are signed off and you will then need to continue your walk down the path until you reach your transport. This could take you up to 1 hour! There are souvenir shops along the way if you wish to purchase a Mt Rinjani trek shirt, as these are hard to find once you return to Sengiggi. If time permits, you have the opportunity to visit some spectacular waterfalls at Senaru.

Once you have reached the private transport vehicle, you can sit back and relax for the 2hr trip to your Resort in Sengiggi.

Are the departure dates listed guaranteed?

No. A minimum 6 people are required, per date listed, to guarantee the departure. It is for this reason we strongly suggest not confirming flight arrangements until the departure date has been confirmed, or an alternative offered. In the event that your preferred departure date does not acquire the minimum numbers required to depart, an alternate date will be offered or a full refund of your deposit will be made available to you immediately.

What type of shape (level of fitness) do I need to be in to complete this trek?

This is a short but extremely challenging trek. Due to the various terrains, and weather conditions ranging from Dry and Humid to wet, you will require a high level of fitness to complete this trek. Whilst you do not need to be an Olympic athlete, the more prepared you are the better you will be out on the trek. The terrain you will cover on your summit attempt is largely volcanic rubble, shifting and slipping underfoot. Ascending on unstable ground is extremely tiring. Multiple Inclines and declines will test weary legs.

What is weather and temperature like?

The temperature during trekking could be between 28-33 degrees Celsius. Sometimes during the night could drop to 11 degrees, in Plawangan around 1 degrees Celsius and during Summit could drop to -2 degrees Celsius.

Will somebody come to pick me up at the airport upon my arrival?

Your trek price includes pick up and transfer from either the airport of your hotel to Sengiggi. You must notify Getaway Trekking of your arrival time / flight number etc. OR your hotel.

Is it safe to trek in Indonesia?

The Mt Rinjani trek is extremely popular, with approximately 100,000 trekkers per year. We work with a local operator to ensure you are transported in safe and reliable vehicles and we do not ever expect you to use public transport. We do not visit Lombok during Independence Day of Indonesia, which falls on 17 August.

Is it possible to reserve a trip now and pay deposit later or do I HAVE to pay deposit at booking/reservation?

Your booking must be confirmed by a $750 deposit. The trip will be confirmed only when we receive the completed final booking form and deposit payment. You can pay the balance of the money 60 days prior to your departure.

Is there a possibility of getting a single room for the Senggigi portion of the trip? If so how much extra will this cost?

Yes! Absolutely – the single supplement will be at a cost of AUD550 per person.

What type of food is provided on the trek? Do you provide snacks or should I take my own?

The meals will be a combination of Indonesian and western style food standard for tourists, and prepared by our cook. They are delicious! We will provide basic snacks, but you should bring your own favourite snacks.

Special dietary requirements are not easily catered for on the trek section of this trek.

Any special foods required would need to be taken over by the trekker and discussed with the trek guide before commencing.

How much spending money should I take with me?

When in Lombok you will require money for all lunches, dinners and drinks as these are not included as part of this package. Indonesian Rupiah is the accepted local currency and we would suggest that AUD300.00 ( converted) would cover this trek. Visa, MasterCard and AMEX are accepted at the Hotel accommodation in Sengiggi.

Can I charge my digital camera or other equipment on the trek?

NO, unless you have your own portable solar cell charger.

Is there any phone service available out on the track?

No, not really. There may be very poor service available in some of the camp sites, but this cannot be guaranteed. Local service providers in Indonesia are XL & Simpati Telkomsel

Do I need to tip my local guide (and porters if applicable)? How much would that be?

Whilst not mandatory it is highly expected by the guide team. The guide team comprises of the English speaking lead guide, the porters, the cook and Personal Carriers.

As a recommendation we suggest: IDR500,000.00 per trekker ($AUD50.00 approx.)

This should be collated as a group and handed to the Lead guide for dispersion to his team.

What opportunities will I have to shower along the trek?

Whilst on the trek, shower options are limited. There is no opportunity to bathe or shower at the end of the first day, hence we recommend you bring some wipes with you. When you are in the Lake Camp site a dip in the Natural Hot Spring Lake is a must for recovery after reaching the summit!

What do I do when I need to go to the toilet?

Bring your own toilet papers. We will provide toilet tent with a hole in the soil and bury the waste.

Do I carry my own pack or does a porter carry my pack?

A personal carrier is included in your package price – the porter is shared 1 between 2 clients and you are able to hand them up to 10kgs each of gear. Please make sure that your gear is placed inside a strong dry sack as these are then tied to a pole and carried along the track. We would suggest that a 35litre dry sack would be ample for your gear for this trek.
