The Atherton Tablelands abound with creeks, rivers and stunning waterfalls are wonderful companions to a wide range of trekking options, many forged by prospectors over 100 years ago. Years of intense volcanic activity have formed this picturesque undulating terrain, framed by the surrounding rainforest-clad ranges.
We combine three half day trekd with invigorating stretching and Pilates sessions on the outside deck of our accommodation. Add in a day of optional sightseeing or just reading a book into the mix, and what more could anyone ask for! A thoroughly restful and relaxing four day weekend.
Cairns
This morning we head to Stoney Creek for the first of our Guided Hikes to Barron Falls (approx 10 km). This is a delightful hike with regular views to Cairns, Trinity Bay and the northern beaches.
After spending some time at Barron Falls, we will board our bus for the short drive to Kuranda for lunch (own cost) and some sightseeing.
Back on the bus we make our way to Atherton, check into accommodation and relax before enjoying our first pilates session on our outside deck.
Later we will have our first dinner with group. (D)
We have the opportunity to enjoy a pilates session on our private deck before a breakfast of fresh Tablelands produce.
Our first stop today will be Malanda Falls, the Millaa Millaa Falls, one of the most photographed falls in Australia so make sure you have your camera handy. Mungali Creek Dairy is our next stop for morning tea.
From here, we will visit Herberton in our private bus with your fellow trekkers. We have the opportunity to visit Herberton Historic Village, a fascinating glimpe into the history of the area.
On return to B&B, a second pilates session, or you may choose to take a rest before dinner which will be at local restaurant. (B/D)
A morning stretch to set us up for our last trekking day. Though not a long hike, some sections of this track is a steeper climb, so it will certainly get our hearts started!
We hike through a variety of terrain, with a short exposed section undertaken early in the day before the heat. Our climbs along this well maintained track are rewarded with beautiful views of the Atherton Tablelands, and, hopefully, some good bird sightings.
After we complete our hike, we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Another stretching session is available on return to our accommodation. Dinner tonight at our accommodation. (B/D)
All good things must come to an end. After breakfast & our final stretching session, we will pack up and check out of our accommodation.
However the day wouldn’t be complete without another hike and the pleasant walk around the crater lake of Lake Barrine is the perfect way to finish. Lunch at the Lake Barrine Teahouse and we then make our way back into Cairns and say goodbye (B)
