The Atherton Tablelands abound with creeks, rivers and stunning waterfalls are wonderful companions to a wide range of trekking options, many forged by prospectors over 100 years ago. Years of intense volcanic activity have formed this picturesque undulating terrain, framed by the surrounding rainforest-clad ranges.
We combine one full day and one half day trek with invigorating stretching and Pilates sessions on the outside deck of our accommodation. Add in a day of optional sightseeing or just reading a book into the mix, and what more could anyone ask for! A thoroughly restful and relaxing long weekend.
Cairns
Midday transfer from Cairns to Atherton in a private bus with your fellow trekkers. Check into accommodation and relax before enjoying our first pilates session on our outside deck. Later we will have our first dinner with group, including a pre-trek briefing. (D)
A morning stretch follows breakfast. Private transfer in a 4WD to start of trek at Herberton. We will be walking along old logging roads, through beautiful forests with a variety of flora. Enroute we will take a relaxed pace, stopping to enjoy our packed lunch. Today is lengthy, however the terrain is not difficult and we will enjoy being in nature without the distractions of day to day life. Another stretching session is available on return to our accommodation. Dinner tonight at Yungaburra Hotel. (B/L)
Pilates session this morning before a breakfast of fresh Tablelands produce. Depart for Herberton and opportunity to visit Historic Village (own cost). Continue to Millaa Millaa Waterfall with opportunity to swim in falls. Drive short distance to Mungalli Creek Dairy Café for Devonshire tea in beautiful garden surrounds. On return to B&B, a second pilates session, or you may choose to take a rest before dinner. (B/L/D)
A morning stretch to set us up for our last trekking day. Though shorter, some sections of this track is a steeper climb, so it will certainly get our hearts started! We trek through a variety of terrain, with a short exposed section undertaken early in the day before the heat. Our climbs along this well maintained track are rewarded with beautiful views of the Atherton Tablelands, and, hopefully, some good bird sightings. After we complete our trek, we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, before the return drive to Cairns. (B/L)
